1) What is Trazocalm (trazodone) used for in pets?

Trazocalm helps manage situational anxiety and stress in dogs and cats, such as during vet visits, travel, or storms, and supports behavioural training.

2) Is a prescription required in Australia?

Yes. Trazodone is Schedule 4 (Prescription Only). A valid Australian veterinary prescription is required.

3) How long before an event should I give trazodone?

Typically 1–2 hours before a stressful event, as directed by your veterinarian.

4) How long does one dose last?

This depends on the pet and dose. Your vet will tailor the regimen to your animal’s needs.

5) Can trazodone be used daily or only occasionally?

Both are used in practice depending on the behaviour plan set by your veterinarian.

6) Can I split the tablets?

Yes, the tablets are scored to allow flexible dosing, but only do so under veterinary direction.

7) What side effects should I watch for?

Common effects include sedation or GI upset. Serious reactions like serotonin syndrome are rare but require immediate vet attention.

8) Can trazodone be given with other anxiety medications?

Sometimes yes, but only under veterinary supervision. Interactions may occur with other serotonergic drugs.

9) Is trazodone safe for dogs with heart or liver issues?

Use cautiously and only under veterinary guidance if your pet has underlying conditions.
