Frequently Asked Questions — Trazocalm (Trazodone) 100 mg

1) What is Trazocalm (trazodone) used for in pets?

Trazocalm is used under veterinary guidance to help manage situational anxiety and stress (e.g., vet visits, storms, grooming, travel) and as part of a broader behaviour modification plan.

2) Is a prescription required in Australia?

Yes. Trazodone for animals is Schedule 4 (Prescription Only). We must receive a valid Australian veterinary prescription before dispensing.

3) How long before an event should I give trazodone?

Follow your vet’s instructions. Many protocols advise dosing 1–2 hours before the anticipated stressor; timing varies per patient and indication.

4) How long does one dose last?

Duration varies with dose and the individual pet. Your vet will advise a regimen appropriate to your pet and may adjust after monitoring response.

5) Can trazodone be used daily or only occasionally?

Both approaches are used in practice. Some pets receive it situationally; others may use scheduled dosing within a behaviour plan. Always follow veterinary direction.

6) Can I split the tablets?

The tablets are scored. Your vet may advise halving or adjusting dose. Do not alter dosing without veterinary guidance.

7) What side effects should I watch for?

Common effects include mild sedation, drowsiness, or GI upset. Seek urgent veterinary care if you notice agitation, tremors, rapid heart rate, high temperature, or signs of serotonin syndrome.

8) Can trazodone be given with other anxiety medications?

Sometimes, yes—vets may combine agents. However, trazodone can interact with medicines that affect serotonin or cause CNS sedation. Disclose all medicines and supplements to your vet.

9) Is trazodone safe for dogs with heart or liver issues?

Use only under veterinary supervision. Your vet will assess risks in pets with cardiac, hepatic, renal disease, glaucoma, or seizure history and adjust plans accordingly.

10) What if I miss a dose?

Ask your vet. For situational use, you may wait until the next planned event. Do not double dose unless your veterinarian instructs you to.

11) How quickly will my order ship?

Once we receive and verify your prescription, orders typically dispatch promptly with tracked delivery Australia-wide. Express options are available at checkout.

12) Can I keep my repeats on file with Discount Pet Meds?

Yes. We can securely hold repeats so you can reorder quickly without mailing the original script each time. Let us know your preference.

13) Do I need to post the original prescription every time?

Not if we keep your repeats on file. If you prefer to keep the original yourself, you’ll need to mail it with each order to comply with regulations.

14) Where can I buy Trazocalm in Australia?

From Discount Pet Meds with a valid Australian veterinary prescription. Order online, email your script to info@discountpetmeds.com.au, and post the original to Suite 106/3, The Crescent, Wentworth Point NSW 2127.

15) What’s the difference between trazodone and “natural” calming products?

Trazodone is a prescription medicine with defined pharmacology. Nutraceuticals and pheromones may help mild cases but are not substitutes when a vet prescribes medication.

16) Can trazodone be used with training and behaviour therapy?

Yes. It can support desensitisation and counter-conditioning by reducing anxiety during training.

17) How should I store the tablets?

Store below 25 °C in a dry place, in the original container, and out of reach of children and animals.

18) Can I stop trazodone suddenly?

Always follow your vet’s advice. For intermittent use, your vet may guide you per event. For scheduled use, do not discontinue abruptly without veterinary direction.

19) What if my pet seems too sedated or not calm enough?

Contact your vet. Dose timing or amount may need adjustment, or your vet may consider alternate/adjunct therapies.

20) How do I submit my prescription to Discount Pet Meds?

Email a clear copy to info@discountpetmeds.com.au and post the original to Suite 106/3, The Crescent, Wentworth Point NSW 2127. We’ll verify and dispatch quickly.
