Active Ingredient: Thiamazole (also known as Methimazole) 1.25mg per tablet

Pack Size: 100 film-coated tablets

Brand: Felimazole

Manufacturer: Dechra Veterinary Products

Product Description:

Felimazole 1.25mg Tablets are used to manage feline hyperthyroidism — a common endocrine disorder in older cats. Each film-coated tablet contains 1.25mg of thiamazole, an antithyroid agent that reduces thyroid hormone production. Felimazole provides a safe and effective long-term treatment option for stabilising thyroxine (T4) levels and improving clinical symptoms such as weight loss, increased appetite, restlessness, and elevated heart rate.

Key Features:

  • Each tablet contains 1.25mg of thiamazole (methimazole)
  • Used for the long-term treatment of hyperthyroidism in cats
  • Small, film-coated tablets for easy administration
  • Ideal for cats requiring low or starting doses
  • Improves appetite, weight, energy levels, and heart rate control
  • Can be adjusted over time based on vet-monitored thyroid levels
  • Well tolerated in most cats with long-term use
  • Prescription-only medication

Directions for Use:

Felimazole must be prescribed by a veterinarian. A typical starting dose is 1.25mg twice daily. Dosage may be adjusted based on your cat’s response and T4 levels monitored through blood tests. Tablets should be given whole (not crushed) and ideally with or after food.

Precautions:

  • Use in pregnant or lactating cats is not recommended
  • Not suitable for cats with pre-existing liver disease, autoimmune disease, or blood cell abnormalities
  • Routine blood tests are essential during treatment
  • Always wash hands after handling tablets

  3. How is Felimazole administered?
Orally, typically twice daily, as directed by a veterinarian.
  4. Can the tablets be crushed?
No. They must be given whole to maintain the coating and avoid human exposure.

Weight loss, increased appetite, vomiting, restlessness, increased heart rate, and poor coat condition.
  6. How long does my cat need to be on Felimazole?
Usually long-term or lifelong. Your vet may adjust the dose based on regular blood tests.
  7. Is monitoring required during treatment?
Yes. Blood tests are needed to check thyroid function and organ health every few months.

Improvements are usually seen within 2–3 weeks, but blood T4 levels guide long-term dosing.

It is ideal for small cats or as a starting dose. Higher strengths (e.g., 2.5mg or 5mg) may be used later if needed.

Yes, but extra monitoring is required as older cats may have concurrent kidney or heart issues.
  17. Can Felimazole cause kidney problems?
It doesn’t cause kidney disease but can reveal pre-existing issues once thyroid levels normalize.
  18. What if my cat vomits after taking a tablet?
