Active Ingredient: Clomipramine Hydrochloride 80mg

Brand: Clompoze

Pack Size: 100 Tablets

Manufacturer: Apex Laboratories Pty Ltd

Product Description:

Clompoze 80mg Tablets are formulated to assist in managing behavioural conditions in medium to large dogs. Each tablet contains 80mg of Clomipramine Hydrochloride, a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat separation anxiety, compulsive behaviours (e.g., tail chasing, licking), and other anxiety-related issues. This higher strength option reduces the number of tablets required per dose for large dogs, improving compliance and ease of administration.

Key Features:

  • Ideal for large-breed dogs needing higher therapeutic doses
  • Used for separation anxiety, OCD-type behaviours, and generalised anxiety
  • Can be combined with behavioural therapy or training
  • Australian-made and APVMA registered
  • Scored tablets for flexible dosing under vet supervision

Usage Instructions:

Administer orally as directed by your veterinarian. Dosage is typically based on body weight (mg/kg) and condition severity. Tablets may be given with or without food. Regular rechecks may be necessary to monitor response and adjust dosing.

Precautions:

  • Prescription-only medication in Australia
  • Not suitable for pets with known hypersensitivity to tricyclic antidepressants
  • Use with caution in animals with heart disease, seizures, or liver/kidney impairment
  • Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation unless specifically advised by a vet

FAQs about Clompoze 80mg Tablets

  1. What is Clompoze 80mg used for?
It is used to treat behavioural issues in dogs such as separation anxiety, compulsive disorders, and stress-related behavioural changes, particularly in larger breeds.
  2. How does Clompoze 80mg work?
Clomipramine increases serotonin levels in the brain, which helps regulate mood and reduce anxiety and repetitive behaviours.
  3. Why is the 80mg strength used for larger dogs?
Larger dogs require higher doses by weight, and using an 80mg tablet reduces the number of pills needed per dose, improving compliance.
  4. Is Clompoze 80mg safe for small dogs?
Generally no — the high dosage is designed for medium to large dogs. Small dogs should use lower strengths like 5mg or 20mg as prescribed.
  5. How long before behavioural improvements are noticed?
It usually takes 2 to 4 weeks to observe noticeable changes, with maximum effect seen after several weeks of consistent use.
  6. Can Clompoze 80mg be used alongside training or therapy?
Yes, combining Clompoze with behavioural modification or training enhances treatment effectiveness.
  7. Is a prescription required to buy Clompoze 80mg in Australia?
Yes, it is a Schedule 4 prescription medication and cannot be legally purchased without a valid veterinary prescription.
  8. Can Clompoze 80mg be split in half?
Yes, the tablets are scored and can be halved if needed under vet guidance for dose flexibility.
  9. What are the potential side effects?
Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, gastrointestinal upset, or changes in appetite. Always consult your vet if side effects occur.
  10. What should I do if I miss a dose?
Administer the missed dose as soon as possible unless it's close to the next scheduled dose. Never double the dose.
  11. Can Clompoze 80mg be used for aggression?
It may assist with aggression caused by anxiety or compulsive disorders but should only be used under veterinary assessment and often in combination with behaviour training.
  12. Is it safe to use long-term?
Yes, it is safe for long-term use with regular monitoring by your veterinarian to ensure effectiveness and manage any side effects.
  13. Is Clompoze the same as Clomicalm?
Both contain clomipramine hydrochloride as the active ingredient. Clompoze is an Australian brand; Clomicalm is an international alternative.
  14. Can I give Clompoze with food?
Yes, the tablet can be administered with or without food based on your pet’s preference or tolerance.
  15. Can Clompoze cause sedation?
Sedation or lethargy is common in the early stages but usually subsides as your pet adjusts to the medication.

Crushing is not recommended unless directed by a vet, as it may alter how the medication is absorbed or tolerated.
  17. Can Clompoze be used with calming supplements?
Only under vet supervision. Combining medications and supplements may increase the risk of side effects like serotonin syndrome.
  18. Can Clompoze help with storm phobia or fireworks anxiety?
