Bromav 200mg Tablets for Dogs – 200 Tablets

Bromav 200mg Tablets are a prescription-strength formulation of bromide, commonly used in dogs for the long-term management of epileptic seizures. Bromide therapy is often recommended when phenobarbital alone is not adequately controlling seizures or when a dog is unable to tolerate other anti-seizure medications. Bromav offers consistent, reliable dosing to support ongoing neurological stability in dogs diagnosed with epilepsy.

How Bromav Works

Potassium bromide stabilises nerve cell membranes in the brain, helping to reduce abnormal electrical activity that triggers seizures. When taken regularly at prescribed doses, bromide supports ongoing seizure control and may reduce seizure frequency and severity.

Directions for Use

Follow your veterinarian’s dosing instructions exactly. Bromide concentrations build gradually in the bloodstream, so consistent daily dosing is critical. Do not change brands, dosage, frequency, or diet without veterinary approval, as this may affect seizure control.

Possible Side Effects

Mild sedation, ataxia (wobbly gait), increased thirst, increased urination, vomiting, or behaviour changes may occur, especially when therapy is first initiated or adjusted. Report severe, unusual, or persistent symptoms to your veterinarian promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions – Bromav 200mg Tablets

What is Bromav used for in dogs?
Bromav contains potassium bromide and is prescribed for managing epilepsy and chronic seizure disorders in dogs. It helps reduce seizure frequency and intensity.
How long does it take for Bromav to start working?
It may take several weeks for bromide to reach therapeutic levels in the bloodstream. Your veterinarian will advise on expected timeframes and whether loading doses are appropriate.
Is Bromav safe for long-term use?
Yes. Potassium bromide is commonly used for lifelong seizure management under veterinary supervision. Regular blood monitoring helps maintain safe and effective levels.
Can Bromav be used with phenobarbital?
Yes, many dogs are managed on a combination of bromide and phenobarbital. This combination can improve seizure control, especially in dogs with refractory epilepsy.
Can diet affect potassium bromide levels?
Yes. Changes in salt intake can significantly affect how much bromide stays in your dog’s bloodstream. Do not change foods or introduce salty treats without veterinary advice.
What should I do if my dog misses a dose?
Contact your veterinarian for instructions. Do not double up the next dose unless specifically directed. Consistency is essential to maintaining therapeutic bromide levels.
Can Bromav cause sedation?
Mild sedation or wobbliness is common, especially when first starting therapy. These signs may improve as your dog adjusts. If symptoms worsen, consult your veterinarian.
Is Bromav suitable for all dogs?
Bromav should not be given to dogs with kidney disease or a known sensitivity to bromide salts. Your vet will assess suitability based on your dog’s medical history.
Does Bromav need to be given with food?
It can be given with or without food; however, some dogs tolerate it better with a meal. Follow your veterinarian’s specific instructions.
Can I stop Bromav suddenly?
No. Abruptly discontinuing anti-seizure medication may trigger seizures. Always follow your veterinarian’s guidance when adjusting or stopping therapy.
How should I store Bromav tablets?
Store in original packaging below the recommended storage temperature. Keep away from heat, moisture, and small children or pets.
What are common side effects of potassium bromide?
Side effects may include sedation, hindlimb weakness, gastrointestinal upset, increased thirst, or behavioural changes. Contact your vet if symptoms are prolonged or severe.
Can Bromav be used in pregnant dogs?
Safety during pregnancy has not been established. Your veterinarian will decide if benefits outweigh risks.
How often should my dog have blood tests?
