Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. What is Baycox used for?
Baycox is used to treat and prevent coccidiosis in piglets and calves caused by Isospora and Eimeria parasites.
  2. How does Baycox work?
It contains toltrazuril, which targets all intracellular stages of the coccidia life cycle, breaking the cycle and preventing reinfection.
  3. When should piglets be treated with Baycox?
Ideally, piglets are treated between 3 and 6 days of age, before clinical symptoms of coccidiosis appear.
  4. Can Baycox be used as a preventative?
Yes, Baycox is most effective when used as a preventative in herds with known coccidiosis exposure.
  5. Is Baycox safe for newborn calves?
Yes, Baycox is safe for use in calves from the first week of life when dosed correctly.
  6. What are the signs of coccidiosis in livestock?
Symptoms include diarrhea (sometimes bloody), weight loss, dehydration, lethargy, and in severe cases, death.
  7. Does Baycox require refrigeration?
No. Store below 30°C and keep it tightly sealed in a dry place.
  8. Can I use Baycox in animals producing milk?
No. Baycox is not approved for use in animals producing milk intended for human consumption.
  9. What is the meat withholding period for Baycox?
There is a 56-day meat withholding period for both pigs and cattle treated with Baycox.
  10. How should I administer Baycox to calves?
Use a drenching gun or applicator to give 3 mL per 10kg of body weight orally. Ensure accurate dosing.
  11. How long does Baycox take to work?
Clinical signs typically improve within a few days, but full parasitic control is achieved after the life cycle is interrupted.
  12. Can I overdose my animals?
Always follow label directions or veterinary advice. Overdosing can increase side effects and provide no added benefit.
  13. Does Baycox affect other parasites?
No. Baycox is specific to coccidial protozoa and does not treat worms or external parasites.
  14. Do I need a prescription to buy Baycox?
No prescription is required in Australia, but veterinary advice is recommended for correct usage and timing.

Yes, Baycox can be used both during outbreaks and as part of a preventative herd management strategy.
  19. How do I know Baycox is working?
