Palladia is a prescription-only veterinary anti-cancer medicine for dogs. It contains toceranib (as toceranib phosphate), a multi-kinase inhibitor used in the management of certain canine mast cell tumours as directed by a veterinarian.
Palladia tablets are indicated for the treatment of Patnaik grade II or III, recurrent, cutaneous mast cell tumours with or without regional lymph node involvement in dogs, when prescribed by a veterinarian.
Always follow your veterinarian’s directions and contact them promptly if your dog shows signs of adverse effects.
Palladia 50mg is an oral prescription tablet for dogs containing toceranib (as toceranib phosphate) at 50 mg per tablet. It is classified as a targeted anti-cancer therapy and must be used under veterinary direction.
Palladia is most commonly prescribed for recurrent, cutaneous mast cell tumours (Patnaik grade II or III), with or without regional lymph node involvement, when your veterinarian decides it is appropriate for your dog’s case.
Toceranib is a multi-kinase inhibitor. In practical terms, it can help slow tumour progression by interfering with signalling pathways involved in tumour cell growth and by reducing the development of blood vessels that support tumours (anti-angiogenic effect).
Many veterinarians and oncology services consider Palladia a form of anti-cancer therapy (often discussed alongside “chemotherapy”), but it is commonly described as a targeted therapy rather than a traditional cytotoxic chemotherapy drug. Your vet can explain how it fits into your dog’s treatment plan.
Palladia is often dosed on an every-other-day schedule, with the dose calculated from your dog’s bodyweight. Your veterinarian may adjust the dose, pause treatment, or reduce frequency based on response and side effects. Always follow the exact directions on your dog’s prescription label.
Palladia may be given with or without food unless your veterinarian instructs otherwise. Some dogs tolerate treatment better when medication is given with a small meal or treat.
Do not split or crush Palladia tablets unless your veterinarian specifically instructs you to do so. Splitting/crushing can increase exposure risk to humans and may affect how the dose is delivered. If dose precision is needed, your vet may prescribe a different tablet strength.
Follow your veterinarian’s instructions. In many cases, the guidance is to skip the missed dose and resume the next scheduled dose, rather than doubling up. Because Palladia is often dosed every other day, timing matters—check with your vet for your dog’s plan.
If vomiting occurs shortly after dosing, contact your veterinarian for advice before giving any extra medication. Your vet may recommend supportive care, timing changes, or dose adjustments depending on severity and frequency.
Side effects can include gastrointestinal upset (e.g., diarrhoea, vomiting, reduced appetite), lethargy, and changes seen on bloodwork (your vet may monitor for these). Not every dog experiences side effects, and many can be managed with veterinary support and dose adjustments.
Seek veterinary advice promptly if you notice: persistent vomiting, watery diarrhoea, black/tarry stools, fresh blood in stool or vomit, unusual bruising/bleeding, collapse, severe weakness, or anything that concerns you. These may indicate serious adverse effects that need urgent assessment.
Often, yes. Many dogs on Palladia have periodic veterinary check-ups and blood tests to monitor tolerability and guide dose modifications. Your vet will advise the most appropriate schedule for your dog.
Your veterinarian will determine suitability. Safety evaluations may be limited in very young dogs and dogs under a minimum bodyweight. If your dog is small or under 2 years of age, your vet will weigh benefits vs risks carefully.
Palladia can sometimes be used alongside other therapies, but interactions are possible. Always tell your veterinarian about all medications and supplements your dog is taking, including anti-inflammatories, steroids, flea/tick treatments, and herbal products. Your vet will decide what is appropriate and may adjust treatment to reduce risk.
Your veterinarian may use extra caution when Palladia is given with NSAIDs, because some combinations can increase the risk of gastrointestinal irritation or complications in certain dogs. Never add pain relief or anti-inflammatories without veterinary approval.
Palladia is generally not recommended for dogs used for breeding, or for pregnant/lactating bitches unless your veterinarian advises otherwise. Discuss pregnancy plans and breeding status with your vet before starting treatment.
Palladia is an anti-cancer medicine. Practical precautions can include: washing hands after handling tablets, using disposable gloves (especially for pregnant people or those trying to conceive), avoiding contact with children, and taking care when cleaning up urine, faeces, or vomit from treated dogs. Ask your veterinarian for household-specific advice.
Store at room temperature in the original container, tightly closed, away from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets, and do not store alongside food items.
