Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Cerenia 60mg used for?

Cerenia 60mg Tablets are used to prevent and treat vomiting in medium to large dogs, including vomiting due to illness, medication side effects or motion sickness.

2. How does maropitant citrate work?

Maropitant blocks NK1 receptors in the brain, stopping the action of substance P, the neurotransmitter responsible for triggering the vomiting reflex.

3. Why choose the 60mg strength?

The 60mg dose allows accurate dosing for medium-sized dogs or large dogs that need an in-between strength, ensuring correct treatment without splitting higher-dose tablets.

4. How quickly does Cerenia start working?

Cerenia is fast-acting and often reduces vomiting within a few hours of administration.

5. How long does one dose last?

A single dose generally provides up to 24 hours of relief from nausea and vomiting.

6. Should Cerenia be given with food?

Your vet may recommend giving Cerenia with a small amount of food to help reduce the risk of stomach upset.

7. Can Cerenia 60mg be used for motion sickness?

Yes. Cerenia is one of the most effective veterinary medications for preventing motion sickness in dogs. Your vet will guide timing before travel.

8. What should I do if my dog vomits after taking the tablet?

Contact your vet before redosing. Whether to repeat depends on how soon after dosing the vomiting occurred and your dog’s condition.

9. Can Cerenia be given daily?

In many cases, Cerenia is given once daily for a set period. Always follow your veterinarian’s treatment plan.

10. Can Cerenia be used long-term?

Some dogs may need longer-term therapy, but this must be monitored closely by a veterinarian.

11. Are there any common side effects?

Possible side effects include lethargy, reduced appetite, drooling or loose stools. Serious reactions are rare but require urgent veterinary attention.

12. Can Cerenia 60mg be split?

Do not split tablets unless your veterinarian instructs you to. Splitting may lead to inaccurate dosing.

13. Does Cerenia treat the underlying cause of vomiting?

No. Cerenia stops vomiting and nausea but does not treat the underlying condition. Your vet will diagnose the cause separately.

14. What if I miss a dose?

If you forget a dose, ask your vet what to do. Do not double-dose unless your vet specifically approves.

15. Can Cerenia be given with other medications?

Cerenia can usually be given alongside other treatments, but your vet must confirm safety for your dog’s situation.

16. How should I store Cerenia 60mg?

Store in the original blister packaging in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight.

17. Can Cerenia 60mg be used in cats?

Maropitant is used in cats, but the dosing differs. Do not give dog-formulated Cerenia to cats unless instructed by your vet.

18. Where can I buy Cerenia 60mg Tablets online?

You can purchase Cerenia 60mg safely from Discount Pet Meds, an Australian veterinary pharmacy. A valid prescription is required.

19. Can Cerenia cause drowsiness?

Some dogs may appear quieter or more tired, but most tolerate the medication very well. Contact your vet if symptoms persist.
