Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. What is Atopica 25mg prescribed for?
Atopica 25mg is used to control atopic dermatitis in dogs, a common skin allergy caused by environmental triggers like pollen or dust mites.
  2. How long before Atopica starts to work?
Dogs may begin to show improvement in symptoms within 4–6 weeks, though some may require up to 8 weeks for full results.
  3. Can Atopica be given long-term?
Yes, Atopica is intended for long-term use when prescribed and monitored by a veterinarian. Some dogs may later transition to every-other-day dosing.
  4. Is Atopica an anti-inflammatory?
Atopica is not a traditional anti-inflammatory—it’s an immunosuppressant that modulates the immune system to reduce allergic skin reactions.
  5. How should I give Atopica to my dog?
Administer Atopica on an empty stomach to maximise absorption. Do not open or crush the capsule; it must be swallowed whole.
  6. What are common side effects of Atopica?
Mild and temporary side effects can include vomiting, soft stools, or decreased appetite. These often resolve with time or dose adjustment.
  7. Can Atopica be given with other allergy medications?
Atopica may be used with some medications, including antihistamines. However, always check with your veterinarian before combining treatments.
  8. Does Atopica need refrigeration?
No refrigeration is required. Store the capsules below 25°C, in a dry place.
  9. What if I forget to give a dose?
If a dose is missed, give it as soon as remembered. Skip the missed dose if it’s close to the next one—never double up.
  10. Can I give Atopica with meals to reduce vomiting?
If your dog has trouble tolerating it on an empty stomach, ask your vet—some may allow it to be given with a small amount of food.
  11. Is Atopica better than Apoquel or Cytopoint?
Each medication works differently. Atopica modifies immune response, Apoquel targets itch pathways, and Cytopoint is an injectable monoclonal antibody. Your vet will recommend the best option.
  12. Do I need a script to buy Atopica 25mg in Australia?
Yes, a valid veterinary prescription is legally required to purchase Atopica in Australia.
  13. Where can I buy Atopica 25mg online?
You can order Atopica 25mg safely and affordably from Discount Pet Meds with a valid prescription.
  14. Can Atopica be used in puppies?
Atopica is not recommended for dogs under 6 months old or weighing less than 2kg.
  15. What makes Atopica different from steroids?
Unlike steroids, Atopica doesn’t carry the same risk of long-term side effects like liver issues or adrenal suppression. It’s safer for chronic use.
  16. How should I dispose of unused capsules?
Return unused or expired Atopica to your vet or local pharmacy. Do not dispose of it in household trash or wastewater.
  17. Can Atopica be used for food allergies?
Atopica treats environmental allergies, not food allergies. Speak with your vet to identify the source of your dog’s reaction.
  18. Is Atopica safe for all breeds?
Yes, but your vet will consider breed-specific sensitivities and overall health before prescribing.
  19. Can Atopica be given during pregnancy?
No, Atopica is not safe for use during pregnancy or lactation in dogs.
  20. What should I do if my dog vomits after Atopica?
Contact your vet if vomiting continues. They may recommend an anti-nausea tablet or alternate method of administration.
